Maria, Marianne and Crazy Hanspeter in Switzerland (11th Sept)

Tom found a kindred spirit!

I’ve known Maria & Hans since I was a child after Mum and Dad met then while travelling in the north of WA. One of my earliest memories is of Maria and Hans helping at the farm with the mess after Cyclone Alby, and them bringing lots of chocolate one Easter.

We met them in Thun, a picturesque town (is there any other sort in Switzerland??) set on a lake not far from Interlaken and stayed with their friend, Marianne, who is also a keen traveller.

We had a very big day with our hosts, up & down mountains on cable trains, exploring the lakes and tasting wild blue-berries.

But the highlight was taking “scooters” down a mountain after taking a cable car to the summit. Tom was thrilled to discover Hanspeter was completely crazy, and learnt lots of new tricks like sticking legs in the air and winding all over the road going much too fast!

It is not difficult to imagine this courageous Swiss couple scaling mountains! Rock-climbing is a hobby of theirs, and we’re not talking the gentle cliffs of Bluff Noll!
